Google Reader is a Web-based aggregator, capable of reading Atom and RSS feeds online or offline. In plain terms, it's a place where you can have information sent to you without all the extra information you don't care about.
How can you use it?
Currently in my school we are getting ready to follow the Olympics, posting medal results for countries and athletes. A feed could be set up so that we can receive this information as it occurs to easily update our medal charts.
Why would you use it?
Following current events is an obvious plus for using Google reader in any classroom.
